Intel’s Next Generation of Accelerators Will Be Called Jaguar Shores
Solomon Thompson / 12 hours ago
Intel has its Gaudi 2 accelerators available, and Gaudi 3 will be available soon. But Intel has already completed work on these current accelerators and is now focusing on its future plans. For this, it has revealed the name of its next generation: Jaguar Shores. Intel will move from birds (Falcon Shores) to felines with this next Jaguar Shores.
The Jaguar Shores chip name was revealed during a technical workshop presentation at the SC2024 conference. The presentation, which focused on Gaudi chips by Habana Labs, marked the first time Intel officially mentioned Jaguar Shores. This announcement may have been unintentional.
A New Roadmap for Intel’s Future Strategy
Intel has presented a new roadmap where it plans to rethink its strategy. It is evident that the company is going through difficulties, and promoting its next generation of accelerators would be a big boost for its position in the current Artificial Intelligence market. It seems that Intel has merged its accelerators into a single family, where this next Jaguar Shores will possibly be a GPU instead of an ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit).
Awaiting Technical Details of Jaguar Shores
Despite providing a new name for the entire upcoming feline-themed family of technologies, no technical data is known about this next GPU. We will have to wait to find out other details that may reveal some technical characteristics, the format, as well as additional information that may shed light on Intel’s plans with this next generation of accelerators, which it has named after these felines.
