Internet Explorer losing out in Browser Wars

This is probably no surprise that Internet Explorer’s share of the browser market is continuing to decrease. Chrome and Safari are clearly responsible for this decline, although Microsoft do still have a hugely dominant share.

Compared to last year, Internet Explorer is down around 4.7% and even Firefox has lost out by 1.7%. Chrome has gained a 1.8% share, strengthening its 3rd spot nicely. While Safari has seen a staggering 4.5% increase. This increase by Safari is clearly driven by the fact Apple decided to make it their browser for Mac’s and more importantly iOS devices, such as the iPhone and iPad, both of which are selling at a ridiculous rate.

Chrome is enjoying its success thanks to its reputation as being the fastest, most lightweight browser and offering good add ons, which mostly explains the drop for Firefox as the Mozilla browser was becoming rather resource-hungry until the latest release.

It seems that now, Microsoft have a very hard challenge to slow their rate of decline down, especially with more Android based phones as well as Chromebooks coming out onto the market.
