Apple’s dominance in the smartphone market doesn’t appear to be diminishing anytime soon according to official sales figures. In the previous year, Apple managed to shift an astonishing 10 million handsets during the first week of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus’s launch period. Unbelievably, the company has managed to surpass this with the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus launch and recorded 13 million sales. Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook described the sales record and said:
“Sales for iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus have been phenomenal, blowing past any previous first weekend sales results in Apple’s history,”
Usually, manufacturers struggle to maintain their sales figures after many product launches. Apple is an anomaly though and continues to build on the company’s success. This even applies to niche devices like the Apple Watch which surpassed Apple’s expectations despite some negative press surrounding the product’s battery life. It seems Apple’s core demographic is hooked on their product line and cannot ever see themselves moving towards a competing hardware solution. As a result, Apple’s position in the smartphone market is incredibly secure and without the dramatic downturn some commentators expected after many years of product launches.
Whether you like Apple’s closed strategy or not, their sales figures once again continue on a rising trend.
Do you think Apple’s position will ever falter?
