How Much Does it Cost?
The Sapphire Pulse RX 7900 XT 20GB graphics card is available now for around £689.99 on Amazon. Furthermore, if you are interested in a 240Hz OLED gaming monitor, the AOC AGON is by far the best gaming monitor I’ve used in recent years, and you can find out more of that from my full review right here, and you should, it’s very very good for gaming. The AOC AGON PRO AG276QZD is available for around £500.
Overview
Overall, I think the Sapphire Pulse RX 7900 XT held up really well, with most games hitting massive FPS without much tinkering required. I think if you’re pushing as far as 240Hz then the more powerful 7900 XTX is going to give you more bang for your buck, as that is an extreme frame rate to reach. Even on the green side of things, the 4090 will struggle to max that out without the use of scaling technologies or frame generation in the latest AAA juggernauts.
I’m a big fan of the 7900 XT though, and it’s clear that it can deliver in competitive titles, and that’s really what this 240Hz OLED monitor was built for. If you plan on just ripping through Counter Strike, Apex Legends, Valorant, League, Overwatch 2, Team Fortress, and countless others, then in straight up rasterization performance, this is a powerful graphics card that will give you massive FPS and full advantage of the low latency of the display too.
If you’re wanting to enjoy some of the more demanding titles like Call of Duty, Battlefield, and non-online games like Assassin’s Creed, Horizon, Cyberpunk, Alan Wake 2, and such, then yeah you’re going to need to lean on the FSR technologies, and the newer Fluid Frame 2 technology to pad that out. Of course, if you’re happy being above 120 FPS for those sort of single player games, the Sapphire RX 7900 XT will do that just fine too. However, 240 FPS+ to max out the panel is a big ask for any graphics card at 2560×1440 and ultra graphics, so that’s really down to you to choose your battles for what works best for you and how much you lean on scaling technologies to boost that, but it is possible. +
AMD Radeon FreeSync Technology is great in this regard though, as regardless of what refresh rate you’re hitting at any one time, you’re still going to get tear-free gameplay. AMD Boost and Anti Lag are going to ensure you get excellent input latency and response times, and overall, you’ll still be able to enjoy any game at its best, regardless of the refresh rate.
