KickassTorrents is definitely the most popular torrent site on the internet, which is why it comes as no surprise that certain anti-piracy groups would take an interest in its activities. After the team behind KAT successfully registered and activated an Isle of Man domain, the local authorities quickly took action and had the domain seized. Admittedly, trying out an Isle of Man domain wasn’t the most inspired choice as the island’s local registry is known for its “zero tolerance” regarding copyright infringement. This makes me wonder why would KAT’s team even consider moving the website there in the first place?
Less than 24 hours after going live, the famous tracker was taken down, which forced KAT’s management to prepare a move to a Costa Rican (.cr) domain. It’s not yet clear whether the IM authorities took action so quickly because of an official complaint, but they did confirm that “the domain was in breach of the .im rules.”
The KAT team was not caught completely off guard, and even though they’ll probably migrate the website to Costa Rica without issues, ensuring the safety of such a notorious domain is no easy task.
