Ivy Bridge Core i5-3570K graphics performance

As more and more people are being able to get their hands on Intel engineering samples of Ivy Bridge processors the chances of getting performance information ‘leaks’ increase dramatically. The most recent Ivy Bridge leak is about the Core i5 3570K processor. The most testing of this processor puts it up against a 2500K both running at their stock speeds.

The i5 3570K processor packs 4 cores at 3.4GHz without hyperthreading, whilst the i5 2500K packs 4 cores at 3.3Ghz without hyperthreading. Intel’s 3570K will have HD 4000 series graphics built in compared to the 2500K which has HD 3000 series graphics, both have 6MBs of cache. Now the two processors were pitted against each other using the following test platform:

Now the results are quite impressive and you can see them below:

On Average the HD 4000 series graphics on the Ivy bridge processor smoke the Sandy Bridge processor by around 70%. Ivy Bridge now shows itself as capable of running most games at 720p with medium-high settings without the need for any graphics card. And in addition to this it also consumes 18W less power than the 2500K with only a 77W TDP. However, even with all these improvements the Intel HD graphics are still no match for AMD’s APU graphics, but the CPUs are significantly better.

Further testing was also done with the i5 3570K and a GT 240 to see how far behind the i5 3570K was from an entry level graphics card like the GT 240. The results were as follows:

A valiant effort from the i5 3570K which shows itself to be only 36% slower than £60 discrete video card.
