Ivy Bridge i7 3770K reaches 6.2GHz and breaks PiFast World Record

The NDA for Ivy Bridge CPUs doesn’t expire until some time in late April but that hasn’t stopped OC_Windforce from overclocking the life out of an i7 3770K and then posting the results for the world to see. He used an engineering sample of the latest 22nm Ivy Bridge processors on an MSI Z77A-GD65 motherboard plus some ye-olde-faithful LN2 goodness to take the Ivy Bridge CPU all the way up to an impressive 6.2GHz across 2 cores and 2 threads. With a brutal core voltage of 1.776v he managed to successfully break the PiFast world record posting 11.77 seconds which beats the previous record of 12.01 seconds set by the famous overclocker HiCookie with a 980X at 6.93GHz.

The RAM used was 4 GB of G.Skill memory running at 2440 MHz (8-11-7-28). OC_Windforce stated that the sample he had was one from a bad batch and he required 1.42v just to get the i7 3770K to 5GHz on air (and if that is bad then it means that in general Ivy Bridge CPUs will be fantastic overclockers).
