Japan Display Develops 4K 12.1″ Mobile Panel For Tablets

With much of the focus of 4K going towards epic size TV’s, high end gaming monitors and a few other bits of crazy tech, there has been little progress with the ultra high resolution of 3840 x 2160 making its way to the small screen, until now!

Japan Display have developed a 12.1″ panel that packs in a pixel density of 365 PPI, one of the highest achieved for a panel designed for the notebook / tablet world. That’s a 4K resolution of 3840 x 2160 on a screen only a little bit of 12″ in size.

It has a limited 160 degree viewing angle, a 1000:1 contrast ratio and 500 cd/m2 brightness rating, a little below the specs we often see attributed to 4K panels. Yet we can’t be too quick to judge, the resolution is very impressive and it is simply the first model to have done it, so now it is time to fine tune and improve on that template. This will still be an impressive and expensive panel suitable for most ultra high end notebooks and tablets.

I really do dread to think of the price increase this would add to a notebook, but I bet it looks nothing short of fantastic.
