Tesla is producing model after model of electric cars, with their Model S car being met with the affordable model 3 car offering everyday users a chance at an affordable electric car for thousands. One feature that is often forgotten because of their environmental and popularity is the safety factor of a Tesla vehicle, the lack of a giant gas-powered engine can apparently do wonders for your safety, especially when you take it joyriding.
The joyriding in question took place in Germany when an eighteen-year-old decided to take her dad’s Model S car out for a spin, alongside her four friends. The crash came at a speed which propelled the electric vehicle over 25m into a field before it rolled and stopped in the middle of the field. To propel a car at such a distance required quite some speed, and ultimately resulted badly.
Three of the occupants had to be taken by helicopter to hospitals in Munich, although it’s been stated that even with the accident none of their injuries were life-threatening. Unlike typical cars, Tesla vehicles don’t have a giant engine up front, instead providing power throughout the vehicle instead offering the front and back of the cars up as crumple zones to buffer and dissipate the impact of a crash. In this case, it would appear the Model S did its job and protected the joyriding teens.
