Although it won’t ship with multiplayer, I think it’s a foregone conclusion Just Cause 3 will eventually have it.
Just Cause 3 was only officially announced recently, with Avalanche Studios saying it wouldn’t ship with multiplayer. Square Enix, the publisher of Just Cause 3, on the other hand, is teasing that it will most likely make it into the game in the near future. During an interview with Game Informer, Avalanche Studios’ CCO and co-founder, Christofer Sundberg, said that the studio is 100% committed to the single player side of the game, but it would consider multiplayer “maybe sometime down the line”.
A subsidiary of Square Enix, Shinra Technologies, wants to pioneer some pretty great cloud-based gaming technology. Shinra also shares Avalanche Studios’ office space, with Shinra’s Senior VP of Business, Jacob Navok, confirming that his staff were working on a “possible future collaboration” with Avalanche. Navok said “What we see in the near future are cloud games that are developed from the ground up as well as games that are in an existing pipeline that we will enhance. For example, taking a game that doesn’t have multiplayer right now and easily giving it multiplayer is what we imagine for enhancements.”
Game Informer asked Navok if Just Cause 3 was this game, to which he replied “I think it does make a lot of sense.”
