Despite all the media attention surrounding the impending desktop Kaby Lake release, it’s important to remember that modern gaming laptops rely on Intel’s mobile solutions. For example, processors like the i7-6700HQ and i7-6820HK offer superb performance in a portable form-factor. As you might expect, Intel is preparing to update these Skylake products and introduce the higher-end Kaby Lake mobile chips. Recently, LaptopMedia revealed exclusive benchmarks for the upcoming Intel Core i7-7700HQ and compared the performance to the i7-6700HQ. Interestingly, the latest processor managed a 2% performance improvement in Cinebench 11 and reported a score of 684 during Cinebench 15’s multi-threaded benchmark. This equates to a performance boost of 3%.
On another note, the i7-7700HQ attained a 6% performance gain in Novabench 3 which is pretty decent. Apparently, the processor will utilise a 2.8GHz base frequency and 3.8GHz Turbo Boost, which is 300MHz higher than its predecessor. Not only that, the TDP remains the same a rather modest 45W. There’s no further information regarding the release date but it’s highly likely that more details will be unveiled during CES 2017. As per usual, we’ll have live coverage from the event and lots of gaming laptop reviews sporting the latest 7th generation mobile flagship. Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing what the i7-7700HQ is capable of and the thermal output in different sized frames.
