To test power consumption, we monitor the overall power of the system through a plug-in electricity usage monitor at an idle and load state. This allows us to show the fluctuation between how much power draw the graphics card takes at idle and at load. By monitoring the overall usage of the whole system, it gives an easy comparison if you wish to do the same yourself as opposed to buying very expensive individual testing equipment.
We know that the 600 series from Nvidia use more power than the AMD counterpart, and that is clearly shown, but the 680 EX OC actually seems to use slightly less power at both idle and load than a reference GTX 680. Whether KFA2 have tinkered in one way or another, or the fact that it has a six and an eight pin PCI-Express connector meaning cleaner power is delivered is anyone’s guess, but the fact remains that this are low numbers for the type of card on offer.
