Kickstarter Wants to Know Why the Zano Mini-Drone Campaign Failed

Kickstarter campaigns are usually about giving regular people the opportunity to contribute to larger projects, whether we’re talking about gadgets or other innovative devices. However, we’ve recently discovered a rather unusual Kickstarter endeavor that’s actually funded by the website itself. Does anyone remember the Zano mini-drone campaign? That was the most-funded Kickstarter project in Europe, but even though it had about 12,000 backers, the campaign eventually failed to deliver. Kickstarter is looking to find out exactly what happened, which is why it has hired an investigative journalist named Mark Harris.
Mark is now tasked with investigating the project in order to determine what happened to the money, especially since Zano’s CEO resigned without giving an explanation. The small drone was supposed to be able to capture photos from unique aerial perspectives, and the campaign managed to raise over $3 million, which surely would have been enough to launch the device. Harris has stated the following regarding his new assignment:
“Kickstarter has asked me to… answer the questions of whether Zano’s creators could have done anything differently, or made mistakes that future Kickstarter projects might avoid. I will also be looking into Kickstarter’s role in the project, and whether it could have served Zano’s creators or backers better throughout.”
Hopefully, those who backed this ambitious project will soon know exactly what happened to the money they pledged, and even though recovering the sum might prove difficult or even impossible, at least they will take comfort in some well-deserved closure.
