Kinect for Windows…. Tomorrow?

Microsoft have been discussing the software development kit regarding the Xbox 360’s Kinect hardware for quite some time. Developers may soon be able to obtain the software for their own uses, according to Winrumours.
The Channel 9 website has backed up this strong claim by announcing a special Kinect related event will occur tomorrow.
Back in February Microsoft did quote the Kinect Windows SDK would be available in Spring, and with us nearing the end of the season, it’s looking good for users looking for a tinker. The SDK will allow full usage of the Kinect hardware, including the “audio technology, system application programming interfaces and direct control of the Kinect sensor itself.”
Looking at some of the “Kinect Hacks” already released by avid users across the globe, we can see how useful this piece of hardware has actually become, and releasing an SDK can only widen the scope of possibilities for motion controls in the future.
According to the information given at MIX 11, Users will be able to write applications for Kinect using Visual Basic, C# and C++, all supported by Microsoft’s visual studio.
Kinect is looking even more promising now the hardware can be opened up on the PC, and without a doubt, this could be the big leap towards that famous scene in Minority report I know you are all thinking of 😉
