Final Thoughts

Price

The biggest selling point of the Kingston HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset has to be its price, at just £74.99 it’s walking that fine line between premium and affordable, but it’s priced alongside headsets like the FREQ3 from MadCatz, the Razer Kraken Pro, Steelseries Siberia V2 and a few others, all great headsets, but the Cloud II can go toe-to-toe with any of them in terms of performance, with the addition of multi-format support and virtual surround, putting the Cloud II a little ahead of the competition in terms of value.

Overview

The Cloud II is a fantastic headset and while I have to admit that I’m not a big fan of the design of the model I reviewed, it also comes in a fetching red and black colour scheme. However, the understated looks certainly have purpose, given that many gaming headsets in this price range are often needlessly garish and brightly coloured. If you want something a little more sophisticated, the Cloud II certainly is that. For me personally, I don’t really much care what a headset looks like if the performance is great, because once it’s on my head, I can’t see it and I’ll buy for performance over aesthetics any day.

The Cloud II certainly delivers in the performance department, one of the best headsets in its price range. While I would love to say “the best” that’s really hard to quantify, as there are a lot of great sounding headsets in this price range, but the Cloud II can certainly hold its own with the best of the best in this respect; if you want even better sound quality, prepare to pay around twice as much for it.

Build quality is exceptionally good throughout. The metal components are tough, but also nicely finished with a brushed effect. The detachable microphone, braided cables, removable ear pads and more all help make this an easily maintainable headset, which should no doubt appeal to those who plan on using it frequently or traveling with it to LAN gaming events.

Pros

  • Excellent build quality
  • Very comfortable fit
  • Detachable microphone
  • Separate game/chat volume control
  • Multi-format support
  • Braided cables
  • Competitive price

Cons

  • None

“This is a fantastic gaming headset and if you’re involved in eSports, or just a keen gamer at home, you’ll love what the Cloud II has to offer. You’ll struggle to find anything better, or with a comparable feature set for the same kind of money and that makes this one of the best all-round headsets available right now.”
