Kingston Display 8K NVMe Render System at CES 2018

Kingston had a lot to show us at CES2018. The company brought their new A1000 NVMe SSD and UV500 SATA SSD as well as an impressive 1U server delivering an incredible performance. But it doesn’t stop there. The last thing we saw was a high-performance NVMe 8K video editing system. Naturally, the system is powered by Kingston drives and there are a total of 9 in this system.

High-Performance 8K NVMe Video Editing System

The system on display is a Lenovo Thinkstation, the P710 Workstation. The display connected is a Dell UltraSharp 32″ (UP3218K) which is an impressive 8K screen. With that listed, let’s get to the juicy parts. Kingston equipped the workstation with eight DCP1000 1.6TB HHHL add-in cards and one DCU1000 3.2TB U.2 2.5″ drive. Now that’s a lot of storage and these drives already are impressive on their own.

CUDA Render System

I am the first to admit, I’m no wizard when it comes to video editing. The photos below should speak for themselves though. If I read them right, the system rendered about 20200 FPS in just microseconds. At the 25FPS output setting, it should make it a 1 minute 20 seconds 8K video. That’s impressive!

Larger Capacities Announced

There is some extra information hidden on the display board. Kingston is readying larger capacity versions which will become available in Q2 2018. With the increase in capacity, the DCP1000 will be available with a large 6.4GB capacity too. Plenty of performance and capacity options in various form factors – something for everyone. And as we’ve just learned, you don’t have to limit yourself to just one drive or form factor.
