Kingston FURY Renegade DDR4 32GB 3600MHz RGB Memory Review

Recently, I was lucky enough to take a look at the rather fantastic Kingston FURY Beast DDR4 memory. However, today, I get to take another step up the ladder to the stunning Kingston FURY Renegade DDR4 memory! This premium 32GB kit comes in a range of options, starting with 8GB DIMMS, but it's available in up to 32GB on a single module. Kingston provides this in a range of 1x, 2x, 4x or 8x bundles too, allowing you a choice of kits from 8GB up to 256GB. Furthermore, there are speeds from 3000 MHz, right up to a super-fast 4600MHz kit, in CL15, CL16, CL18 and CL19. I'm not going that extreme today though, sticking with a 32GB (2 x 16GB) 3600MHz CL16 kit, which is likely going to be one of the most popular configurations anyway. Kingston FURY Beast DDR4 has been with us for some time now, and it's easier than ever for brands to get higher speeds out of their memory, and more so, the prices of faster and larger capacity kits are better than ever too. DDR5 is just around the corner, but DDR4 certainly still has a lot of mass appeal. There are two versions of this kit available, one with RGB and one without. I have the RGB model in for review, but broadly, the design looks the same until you plug it in and power it up. With Fury CTRL, you can customise the RGB easily enough, and each module has an infrared sync system to ensure they always match. Of course, it'll work with most motherboard software too, such as MSI, Gigabyte, ASUS and ASRock, and that includes both Intel and AMD platforms. There's a nice graphic on the box, representing the pattern you'll find on the heatsink. Of course, there's also a nice photo of the memory, and you can see the RGB strip lit up in red along the top. There are some details here on the RGB software control, and the infrared sync technology too. The red badge signifies the limited lifetime warranty. Around the back, there's a stylish photo of the memory with some nice RGB effects on display. Below that, we can see support for MSI, Gigabyte, ASUS and ASRock RGB software suites, but I suspect more will work, these are just verified. You can see here, I have the 32GB DDR4 32GB CL16 kit, which is rated at 3600MHz. A Closer Look The design of the FURY Renegade is pretty dramatic and a clear step up in quality and design from the BEAST I reviewed recently. There's just a lot more going on in general, and it's a more complex design that's no doubt more difficult to produce too. It's all cut from layers of aluminium, giving it this fantastic 3D look. The FURY logo is actually cut from the same piece of aluminium as the black section below it; it's just not been coated afterwards. They've even CNC'd some cool lines into it, which look pretty slick. It appears to be a two-part construction too, with the top section having a smoother finish but still a matte painted look, while the material between those aggressive fins looks to have a more textured or sandblasted finish. As you can see, it's the DDR4 kit, which seems a bit strange to point out, as we know it is. However, Kingston is still doing DDR3 versions of these kits, and DDR5 is just around the corner, so I can see how things could get mixed up a little more than they usually would. There's a good amount of material on these modules, with thick aluminium on each side over that black PCB. While the material will help keep things cool, it's the massive surface area this design provides which should bring the most benefit. On the reverse side, there's the usual sticker with all the technical numbers on it, nothing out of the ordinary though. One thing I do love, however, is that the modules use a pair of screws to secure each side. Most memory just use some sticky glue to sandwich the RAM between the metal, but these are properly secured, and that also locks in that RGB lightbar in the top section. The light bar is recessed into the metal, rather than sticking out, so while it should provide some nice lighting effects, it won't be as in your face as some RAM modules RGB can be. Overall, it's by far some of the best-looking memory out there right now. It's both aggressive and stylish, which isn't easy to achieve. There's a none RGB version too, and honestly, I think that may tempt me for a more stealthy look, but that's obviously subjective. Finally, we have the RGB. The colours are fantastic, and while they're plenty vivid, they're not overly bright and blinding like some of the kits on today's market. There's an infrared light that allows the modules to sync up with each other, so the colour fade effects are always perfectly lined up. Fun fact, if you slot a business card between them, you can watch them go out of sync... if you want to, not much point though. It's broadly compatible with most motherboards too, and my MSI software had no issues dialling in some custom colours. We put the RAM kit that is being tested into our test system and benchmark it at its first XMP profile using a variety of benchmarks and tests. Once complete, we apply a reasonable overclock where possible and benchmark the same software with the overclocked values. The CPU clock speed is set to default for both runs. The Kingston FURY Renegade DDR4 32GB 3600MHz RGB Memory is available now from most major retailers. There's a good range of kits available too, from single modules to dual and quad kits. Overview Kingston has been around for longer than I can remember, and I think their decades of experience in the PC market shows in everything they do. The Kingston FURY Renegade isn't the most extreme memory on the market, but it's clearly targeted more towards gamers and PC enthusiasts. While some of the smaller capacity and lower speed kits will appeal to those on a tighter budget or with lower requirements, they also offer a good range of huge capacity setups with higher clock speeds than what I reviewed today. Or, to put it simply, they've got a bit of something for everyone. At 3600 MHz, the 32GB kit I tested is likely to be one of their most popular kits. 32GB ticks all the right boxes for those wanting a high-end workstation or gaming PC, which 3600MHz is plenty fast for gamers, video editing and more. Unfortunately, I couldn't push any higher on the OC this time around, but XMP posted the first time with no tweaking required. Of course, if you want more speed, the 4000 MHz kit is the next step up from Kingston, but you'll pay a premium for it. Kingston has done a fine job with the design too. The heatsinks are practical, as they provide a good amount of mass to ensure consistent performance from the memory. The unique design looks fantastic too, with lots of aggressive lines and fins to it that will certainly appeal to those building a gaming PC. However, they're also providing a large increase to the surface area, which helps with the cooling even more. The RGB version I tested looks great, and the colours and nice and vibrant with infrared sync ensuring they always match up nicely. However, if you want to save a little, the non-RGB version looks just as slick. Should I Buy Them? The Kingston FURY Renegade range has a lot to offer, with a wide selection of capacities and speeds to suit your budget or requirements. It's competitive priced memory from a company with decades of experience in the memory market, and I think that's well reflected in the overall build quality and design on offer.
