When the iPad was launched you may have noticed the lack of memory, especially as there is no expansion slot. The idea behind such devices like the Wi-Drive is to solve this lack of memory problem by providing an external memory much like portable storage devices but this can be accessed via a Wi-Fi connection meaning you don’t need any fancy cables and connectors. This is tailored for allowing you to store large video files and for you to be able to stream them directly onto your iPad (or other iOS device).
Currently, up to three users can access this drive at the same time which is pretty nifty allowing various members of the family (all families have more than 1 iPad right??!!) to watch different videos or show off their latest photos.
It must be noted that this is a flash-based memory device so the capacities are only 16GB or 32GB but at a fairly reasonable $129.99 and $174.99, respectively. This may sound a lot compared to a USB memory stick of this size but if you do use your iPad a lot then it will certainly be worth looking into.
To use this device it is fairly simple and all you need to do is download an app (what a surprise!) and then you can access any video, audio or image that the iOS device supports. This does include Microsoft Office!
It must also be noted that Seagate have their GoFlex Satelite available which uses a hard drive instead of flash memory and so you will get more capacity for your money.
