Whoops doesn’t even cover this one, as legendary metal heads Metallica are preparing their 10th studio album, it has been revealed the Kirk Hammett lost vast amounts of data pertaining to the creation of their new tracks.

Legendary guitarist Kirk Hammett claimed to have recorded around 400 new riffs while working on the new album, but had 250 of them stored on his iPhone. Kirk has now admitted that he lost his iPhone six months ago, as well as the 250 riff stored withing.

“I put riffs on my iPhone, but something very unfortunate happened to me about six months ago,” he told Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta in an interview transcribed by Blabbermouth. “I lost my iPhone [containing] 250 musical ideas. And I was crushed. It didn’t get backed up.”

What’s worse is that Kirk didn’t back them up and since most were a spur of the moment ramble of ideas, he can only remember about eight of the riffs. On the plus side, Kirk and the rest of the band have been working tirelessly on the new album, which Kirk said is “super riffy, super heavy.”

Moral of the story, cloud backup is on our mobile devices for a reason. Personal photos and especially work stuff should be backed up.

On another note, let’s hope their new album isn’t as trite as several of their last efforts.
