Kodi Media Player Now Available for the Xbox One Console

The infamous yet completely legal media player Kodi is finally available for the Xbox One console. The popular media center solution for PCs is now “back home” in a sort of way. Considering it began its life as the Xbox Media Center (XBMC), so technically it owes its roots on the Microsoft platform. It has changed and evolved a lot since then of course, becoming a beloved solution by cord-cutters and HTPC users. Meanwhile it is maligned and misunderstood by many others as well as a pro-piracy platform.
Kodi for Xbox Features
Technically the Kodi media center for Xbox is still in a soft-launch phase. However, it supports a full raft of features from the Windows 10 Store version. That includes all the alleged piracy tools that the MPAA and the entertainment industry lawyers despise. Perhaps the best news for Xbox users is that they finally now have a TV DVR option. Since Microsoft officially will not provide TV services or DVR services, the Kodi workaround is the best solution.
Some known limitations on this pre-alpha release include:
- Limited access to only part of your video and music folders
- Network support only includes NFS:// shares so far
- Blu-Ray and NAS support not yet available
- Some add-ons may not work yet
To download, simply head to the Xbox app store and type in the product name in the search bar.
