A Closer Look – Interior

Being a high-power unit, there’s quite a bit of heavy-duty hardware in here, but it’s all nicely spaced out to allow for clean airflow between all major components, and there’s a minimal amount of cables trailing on the interior too, which is always a good thing to see.

Some thick aluminium heat sinks are mounted throughout, keeping some of the major components cooled. The DC-DC converters look pretty robust too.

There are two main bulk capacitors in the Continuum, both Japan made Nippon, in fact, all the caps used in the Continuum are Japanese Nippon, which is pretty impressive for a budget focused unit.

Each cap is rated for 400V, 470uF, at up to 105c, so we shouldn’t have any problems pulling some serious power through them.

The EMI looks pretty robust too, although some of the soldering could be better, it’s far from being an issue. Things look a little messy with so much glue in here too, but it’s not uncommon to see this technique used to prevent any components from moving around.

What few cables you do find on the interior are running from the modular cable PCB, most likely for monitoring voltages, and the fan cable is also strapped into the same bundle with a few cable ties to keep it all neat and tidy.

The front PCB looks pretty solid, which a few heavy cables running through for the big voltages. The soldering looks a bit scruffy here too, but there’s plenty of it and the cables are fixed very securely, so no issues with build quality.

Finally, we have a 135mm fan to keep things cool.

The fan used is made by Globe Fan, pretty common to see these used in PSUs, and they’ve always been pretty great when it comes to performance. Now, let’s plug this into our load tester and see what the Continuum can do!
