Konami Deal Gives Developer Potential Access to Silent Hill
Mike Sanders / 3 years ago
While there have been a few rumours over the last year that Konami might have finally decided to get back into the world of making video games, there has so far been very little concrete evidence to truly confirm that this is the case. Given that they have so many impressive IPs under their umbrella (Silent Hill and Metal Gear, to name just a few) though, this is clearly a very frustrating point for the gaming community who clearly want something new and fresh from their favourite franchises, yet see nothing but stagnation from Konami who ceaselessly pump out Pachinko machines.
Following the annoucement of an official partnership between Konami and Blooper, however, there is fresh hope that we might finally be getting at least a new Silent Hill title!
Konami Deal Raises Silent Hill From the Dead?
So, you’re probably at this point wondering who ‘Blooper’ is? Well, while the name might not be overly familiar, some of their gaming titles certainly are. With ‘The Medium’ and ‘Blair Witch’ being some of their most stand-out work, and seemingly showing that the developer has a flair for horror, while it’s entirely possible that this new deal (which gives them apparent access to Konami IPs, both old and new) might turn towards some of their other IPs, the most obvious conclusion is that they’ll be chomping at the bit to take a swing at a new Silent Hill.
“It is a historic day for me and the culmination of several years of our work. The fact that such a renowned company as KONAMI has decided to strategically cooperate with the Bloober Team means that we also joined the world leaders in gaming and became an equal partner for the leading players in this market.” – Blooper
“We have been providing unique entertainment content and ways to enjoy it through the use of information technology. In the digital entertainment industry, significant changes in the business environment are expected in the future. We look forward to combining Bloober Team’s and our respective characteristics and strengths to create high-quality contents” – Konami
What Do We Think?
At the time of writing, this new collaboration is more than a little vague on specific details about what it will truly represent. In other words, the ‘deal’ may just be to set up a more colloquial working relationship than actually resulting in ‘Blooper’ being commission to create any new games on Konami’s behalf. – That is, however, the most pessimistic view we can conjure up.
Looking at this more positively, Konami may have just chosen ‘Blooper’ to utilise their proven track record in the horror genre to be the creators of the next Silent Hill. The only question is, when will we know for sure? – Well, if this is the case, presumably Blooper had to submit a concept of what the game may represent. So in terms of development, about potentially in the very early stages, something may be getting fleshed out right now. In terms of something solid though? Well, we suspect we won’t hear much about this again until the new year. Still, although nothing is written in stone about what this deal may represent, the potential on offer is certainly more than a little encouraging.
