LaCie introduced a couple of 5big NAS storage models: the 5big Thunderbolt and the 5big NAS Pro. Both are designed with all brushed aluminium and offer up to 20TB of capacity with RAID.
The 5big Thunderbolt comes with RAID 0,1 and JBOD with 5 hot-swappable bays and the possibility to have mix-and-match RAID set-ups. There are two Thunderbolt ports which let you connect up to six devices. LaCie claims that this NAS lets you have up to 785MB/s with five 7200RPM/64MB Cache hard drives in a RAID 0 configuration.
The 5big NAS Pro comes with dual gigabit connections, link aggregation support and couple of USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports. The NAS uses a dual core 2.13GHz Intel Atom 64-bit processor and 4GB memory with a choice of RAID 5, 5+ spare, 1 and 0.
LaCie’s 5big NAS thunderbolt is priced from $1,199 for 10TB, with a 20TB drive option, and the 5Big NAS Pro barebone NAS with 10TB and 20TB capacities starts from $549.
