LaCie Show DJI Copilot and Rugged Secure at CES 2018

Seagate might have good portable drives in their main portfolio, but LaCie has the premium drives. We’ve reviewed several already here at eTeknix and I can vouch for them being awesome. The Rugged series was on display at CES 2018 and so was the new DJI Copilot drive.

LaCie DJI Copilot

If the new LaCie DJI Copilot drive looks familiar to you, then that’s no surprise. It uses the same basic design as the Rugged series with a few changes. Just as the Rugged series, this one has also been designed by Neil Poulton.

The new thing with this drive is given away by the above photo. It doesn’t just come with a built-in cable for the connection, it also has a card reader and USB host functionality. Inside is a hard drive to which you can offload your files while on the go. Memory cards are small, rarely above 64GB or 128GB. That kind of space is quickly filled when you shoot 4K or 8K footage. With the DJI Copilot, you got a place to offload it all.

The drive has a status display built-in which is really cool. It will keep you updated on the copy progress.

Inside the drive is a 2TB drive which allows you to offload up to 65 hours of 4K footage.

LaCie Rugged Secure

The Rugged series also got an upgrade and now comes in a Secure version. We keep all the great things from the original Rugged drives and add a self-encrypting feature based on Seagate Secure Technology. This should keep your data safe, even when the drive is removed from the enclosure.

LaCie’s Rugged SECURE allows you to transfer and transport your sensitive data and keep it protected from unauthorized access or intellectual property theft. All this on top of universal compatibility with USB-C, USB 3.0, and Thunderbolt 3. Not to mention the rain, drop, and crush resistance.

The bonus of a 2-year Seagate Rescue Data Recovery service shouldn’t be underestimated either.
