Lamptron CW611 Watercooling Fan Controller Review

Lamptron tell us that the CW611 water cooling fan controller will have an MSRP of $89.99 USD and €69.99. They have also provided a “where to buy” list for those who might be struggling to find it. In the UK we are seeing prices of around £60 which looks about right given the U.S MSRP.

Well it is clear then that Lamptron’s CW611 fan controller is not a fan controller for an average user, neither is it a fan controller for a gamer or an enthusiast looking to build a cheap bang-for-buck system. What the CW611 represents is the créme de la créme of fan controllers. You will struggle to find a fan controller on the market with this kind of feature set and build quality. In fact I know of very few fan controllers that allow you to hook up a flow meter and monitor your LPH rate. For that reason alone the Lamptron CW611 is ideal for water cooling users and if you’ve already spent a fortune on building a top of the range water cooled system then the Lamptron CW611 is probably one of the best ways you could add those finishing touches. With all that said it is understandable why there is such a premium in place for this product. Yet if you consider what you do actually get in real terms, the price is very competitive and I’ve seen fan controllers that cost only about 20% less with nowhere near the standard of build quality or diversity of features that the Lamptron CW611 offers.

Pros

  • Crystal clear LCD panel
  • Clear instructions on how to operate
  • Temperature targets and responses
  • Matte design – no glare
  • Flexibility for use in air cooled and water cooled systems
  • Excellent build quality
  • 1 year free replacement Lamptron warranty

Cons

  • High absolute price
  • Short temperature sensor cables
  • User interface is complex and not as intuitive as it could be

eTeknix says: If you are looking for a premium fan controller for an air cooled or water cooled system then you cannot go wrong with the Lamptron CW611. It offers the flexibility to control and monitor all your cooling needs while still retaining a sleek and subtle design that is sure to suit most systems. Lamptron have really outdone themselves here and as far as we can see there is no other product on the market that can compete with what the Lamptron CW611 offers in terms of water cooling support, features and build quality. Hats off to Lamptron for this one!

We would like to say a big thank you to Lamptron for providing this review sample.
