Lamptron Under Fire for Distributing Counterfeit AIDA64 Keys

Lamptron, a known entity in the PC cooling market, has been caught selling counterfeit keys for AIDA64 software with its LCD-equipped cooling products. The issue was first brought to light by der8auer, a prominent overclocker and youtuber, who reported that Lamptron bundled these fake keys with products like the Lamptron ST060 processor cooler.

The Investigation Unfolds

According to der8auer, the fraudulent keys were intended for a version of AIDA64 that does not support updates, misleading users about their legitimacy. These keys activate the software, but problems arise when an update is attempted, revealing the keys’ invalid nature. The misleading practice was confirmed by FinalWire, the developers of AIDA64, who have repeatedly asked Lamptron to halt these actions to no avail.

Consequences for Lamptron

FinalWire has expressed its concerns publicly, stating that Lamptron had registered as a reseller but only made a single legitimate purchase of the AIDA64 Extreme edition. This backdrop of limited transactions raises doubts about the validity of any licenses Lamptron claimed to provide with their products.

Der8auer’s further investigations into several Lamptron products confirmed that all the AIDA64 keys provided were indeed fake, adding weight to suspicions that Lamptron used a key generator for creating these counterfeit licenses. Despite these findings, no legal actions have been taken against Lamptron yet, but the potential for serious repercussions looms if the company continues these deceptive practices.
