Larian Studios, known for its success with Baldur’s Gate 3, could have taken a different path in game development. In a recent interview, CEO Swen Vincke revealed that if the studio hadn’t secured the rights to develop Baldur’s Gate 3, they were considering working on other prominent RPG series, namely Fallout and Ultima.
Vincke explained that Larian Studios wanted to work on a major RPG franchise to achieve wider recognition and success. The team considered Fallout and Ultima as potential projects. However, they eventually chose Baldur’s Gate because the rights were available after Black Isle Studios shut down. This decision led to the creation of Baldur’s Gate 3, which has been highly successful.
Larian Studios’ interest in Fallout suggests they are open to exploring different franchises. The studio has proven its ability to create exceptional RPGs, and fans are eager to see what they will develop next. While there are no immediate plans for a Fallout or Ultima game, Vincke’s comments indicate that Larian is considering various opportunities.
