Larian Studios Faces Unique Challenges After Baldur’s Gate 3 Success

Larian Studios, the developers behind the hit RPG Baldur’s Gate 3, are encountering unexpected challenges as they work on their next projects. The overwhelming success of Baldur’s Gate 3 has made it difficult for the team to find new and original ideas after a project that did so much already.
Pushing for New Ideas
In an interview with PC Gamer, writing director Adam Smith explained the dilemma. “One of the biggest problems we have now is that whenever we’re talking about things, we say we did that in BG3,” Smith said. This challenge is not new for Larian Studios. They faced similar issues while developing Divinity: Original Sin 2, which was also a massive game in its own right.
During the development of Baldur’s Gate 3, the team had to ensure they weren’t repeating themselves. They constantly asked, “Have they already seen this pattern? Have they already used these verbs in this order? Have they already had this emotional arc?” The goal was to provide a new experience without just adding content for the sake of it. The team’s commitment to innovation is evident as they seek to create unique experiences for players.
Fans eagerly await Larian Studios’ next titles, but the studio remains tight-lipped about their new projects. With the high expectations set by Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios is under pressure to deliver exceptional games once again.
