Everyone here has heard of The Last of Us, the action-adventure survival horror video game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for PlayStation 3 consoles in 2013. The game definitely looked good even in its original form, but its creators eventually decided to release a remastered version of it called The Last of Us Remastered for PlayStation 4, and it was this version of the game that served as a source of inspiration for a 3D environment artist, Kimmo Kaunela, who has been working on a special project in Unreal Engine 4. The project is meant to show what The Last of Us would have looked like if it were developed using this particular engine, and I have to admit that I’m quite impressed by the end result.
From what I’ve seen from a series of screenshots, it looks like the environment is incredibly detailed, and some might even go as far as to consider it realistic. The artist used quite a bit of Chromatic Aberration, and while some of you might actually appreciate the look that it gives, others might not like it so much. In the end, it’s all a matter of personal preference, but considering the fact that the entire thing was put together by a single artist and not a studio, it’s definitely worth having a closer look. Below you will find a series of screenshots for this Last of Us inspired project, as well as a video that shows off some of its main highlights.
