Silverstone have really changed their tune this year at Computex and while I’m not sure if that’s a bad thing or a good thing for consumers, they do have some interesting products, they’re just a little off beat from what we’ve come to expect from them as a brand. First up, we have the new PM01 and the PM01 RGB equipped chassis. Using a plastic exterior over a steel frame, they’re noticeably “cheaper” than what we’ve come to expect from Silverstone, who used to dominate the high-end chassis market, but seem to have moved down to a more affordable manufacturer in recent years. This is good for many consumers, more affordable is not all that bad of a thing.
The chassis has a huge amount of ventilation on the front panel, as well as a robust amount of room for a water cooling setup. There’s a large shroud covering the PSU, giving it a nice clean look and more than enough room for the biggest graphics cards on the market.
Things are looking better with the latest RL05 Redline series, still focusing on “value” more than anything, but the overall finish looks really cool with the black and red detailing.
A little bit more back to the high-quality roots of Silverstone is the Kublai KL07, with a durable silence focused build, thick noise dampening materials on the side panels, PSU shroud, and a clean looking front panel.
Further prototypes include the rather funky looking PM02 with its black and white front panel, the angular black and red PM03 and further down the line, their current FT and RV series.
Another prototype would be their latest AIO cooler design, which features the pump built into the radiator, allowing for a slimmer block. Not sure why they took a gold pen to it, as it looks really scruffy, but it is only a protytype afterall.
Here you can see the 240mm prototype, and keep in mind this is a great idea as the part where the pump it is usually blocked by the center part of the fan anyway, so it should impact cooling performance or airflow in a significant way.
