Microsoft has officially abandoned Windows XP for around 4 years now. How time flies, right? Despite that though, it seems that many companies have decided to stick with it for a lot longer. For example, Steam has announced that they will only be ending support for both Vista and XP in early 2019. Quite a gap for such a popular platform.
It seems, however, that League of Legends is another one to shortly follow suit.
In a report via PCGamesN, League of Legends is set to officially abandon Windows XP in May 2019.
Developer Riot Games has said that following a review of the user O/S figures, less than 1% of the current player base still uses Windows XP. As such, their decision to finally end support does make more than a little sense. It is, after all, a bit of a chore to ensure a Windows XP friendly release. Particularly one that’s secure. Not to mention that all that work would be for just 1% of your player base.
With yet another company announcing their abandonment of Windows XP, it seems a fairly safe conclusion that 2019 may mark the year in which the operating system is officially abandoned. As above, given that Microsoft officially did this over 4 years ago, it seems a bit weird that it took so many others so long to join suit.
Well, either way, the short version is that if you are one of the 1%, you’ve got to think about making the change. As great as Windows XP was, all good things must come to an end!
