Lenovo is thinking of buying Canadian based Blackberry maker RIM. It’s confirmed by a top executive of Lenovo that the Chinese based company is considering to acquire RIM in the future and revealed that there were talks and even discussions about moving funds between the 2 companies. During an interview with Bloomberg, Lenovo’s CFO Wong Wai Ming said,”We are looking at all opportunities – RIM and many others. We’ll have no hesitation if the right opportunity comes along.”
However Lenovo may find it difficult to acquire ARM due to the tough Regulations in the U.S. and Canada and will find it even tougher if the new BlackBerry 10 turns out to be a major success for RIM, seeing Lenovo possibly backing out from the deal. Canada may also not approve of this deal as it blocked acquisitions of a few Canada based companies by foreign firms in the past, citing security issues, as clearly mentioned in Bloomberg’s report.
