Lenovo introduced their newest member of the Z50 Gaming notebook line at IFA 2014, the Z50-75, with availability between October and November. Today is the first October and the first models have started to become available at different retailers and more expected the coming days.
The Z50-75 is new affordable Gaming Notebook aimed and the more budget oriented players who don’t need touch screen or a mighty Intel Core-i7 processor. The new line is based around various AMD quad-core processors. The new version sports an AMD FX-7500 CPU or either A10-7300 or A8-7100 APU’s. The weight is set to 2.5 kg, so it isn’t the lightest on the block.
Almost all models I could find were sporting SSHD hybrid drives, but I also found a couple that had normal hard drives installed. This could however just be an error from the shops. All models with hybrid drives have 8MB SSD cache boosted area and the capacity variates from 500 GB to 1 TB. It supports up to 8 GB SO-DIMM DDR3 modules for a total of 16 GB system memory.
The display is 15.6-inch big and supports HD (1366 x 768 pixels) and full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) and it is powered by a Radeon R7-M260DX with 2GB VRAM. It has two USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0 port, VGA, DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 1.4 video output and RJ45 Ethernet. It also has combo 3.5 mm audio jack for Dolby Home Theatre powered sound as well as two 1.5 watts speakers.
The new gaming laptop also has a built-in 720p webcam, an optical DVD+/- RW drive, a SD and MMC card reader and wireless module with Bluetooth 2.0 and 802.11b/g/n WiFi. The battery is a 4-cell that varies from 2200 mAh to 2800 mAh depending on model
The price starts at €399 for the cheapest model with 4 GB RAM, A8 APU and 500 GB SSHD and goes all the way up to €699 for the FX-7500 CPU, 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB SSHD. All models come with Windows 8.1 pre-installed and should be ready to go. The design of the gaming machine is nice and clean, featuring simple lines and a soft-touch finish which gives the design a pretty sleek appearance.
The availability has starting in the EU with German customers being the first to get their hands on the new models. Some are in stock and others are expected shortly. I could not find any models listed at the major UK sites yet and the US availability is still unknown. In the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa) Lenovo will throw in two free games titles with the purchase. The promotion will remain valid until 31 March 2015.
