Lepa G1000-MA Semi Modular Power Supply Review

In the UK the Lepa G1000 power supply is pretty sparse in terms of availability. We found it for £134 at Pixmania only while in the USA it was on Newegg for $189.99. Given the pricing of other 80 Plus Gold 1000W power supply units we can see the Lepa G1000 has about a 10% cost advantage over its competitors. From our testing we have seen that even though you’re paying a lower cost you certainly do not lose much in terms of performance. The Lepa G1000W is a very powerful unit with tight voltage regulation, high PFC, high efficiency and capable of handling very power hungry systems. That said it does all that relatively quietly too. My only concern would be that some users may find the cabling not to their tastes and the semi-modular design means there isn’t that much you can do to fix that – custom cables only work when a power supply is fully modular. However, for the vast majority of us that aren’t too fussed about aesthetics and don’t even have side panels the Lepa G1000W really is a bit of a no brainer. It is cheaper than most of the reputable competition and you don’t have to sacrifice much in return for saving a bit of cash.

Pros

  • Very affordable for what it is
  • Nice aesthetics
  • Good selection of connectors and cables
  • Quiet under the vast majority of usage scenarios
  • Above its 80 Plus Gold Certification in terms of efficiency

Cons

  • Not fully modular
  • Cables won’t be to everyone’s taste in terms of braiding and colour schemes
  • Loud at 100% load
  • Availability is hit and miss
  • 3 year warranty is good, but not as good as most of the competition

eTeknix says: “Lepa may be unknown to many but our testing proves that there is certainly no reason to doubt the brand name. The Lepa G1000 carries all the positive heritage of the Enermax brand and the G1000 is one of the best 1000W power supplies you can get at a relatively affordable price point. With 80 Plus Gold Certification, +-2% voltage regulation, quiet operation and a semi-modular design the Lepa G1000 will suit the needs of any multi-GPU or CPU system builder. It is clear that the Lepa brand offers great value and we look forward to seeing what else Lepa have to offer in the future.”

Thank you to Enermax and Lepa for providing this review sample.
