Pricing
The Lepa G1600 is priced with an MSRP of about $330 – at Newegg we saw it for $340 USD, on NCIX it was selling for $320 but it was out of stock there. This means UK pricing of about £220-240 and EU pricing of €270-290. We can’t actually find a UK or EU retailer so we can’t be sure the pricing is 100% accurate hence the broad range. Either way if we just go on American pricing this unit is very competitive. It is as affordable or often cheaper than some similarly spec’d 1500W power supplies, it is also cheaper than Corsair’s popular high wattage AX1200i which typically retails for $350.
Conclusion
I think the results for the Lepa G1600 power supply speak volumes on there own. It doesn’t take a genius to see that this power supply is a top performer: it offers more than 80 Plus Gold efficiency, exceptional PFC, tight voltage regulation, solid performance under CrossLoad and very tight noise/ripple suppression across all rails. While Lepa is a brand that are not that well known the fact their PSUs are made by Enermax (because they are owned by Enermax) means the G1600 is a power you can count on. The unit benefits from high quality components, high quality construction and high end performance. Even if there was a shred of doubt left in your mind after all the test results surely the competitive pricing and excellent 5 year warranty puts those issues to bed.
Perhaps the only thing to mark the unit down on is its noisy fan at 80-100% loads but even then you have to consider if you have a system consuming 1200-1600W it is unlikely that the power supply would even be the loudest part anyway. To consume that much you’d have three to five graphics cards which would undoubtedly be significantly louder – even on water as you’d need a load of radiators and fans. An additional issue, that is non-product specific, is the limited availability. I hope Enermax and Lepa continue to restock and push this power supply unit. I can see it being very popular at the current point in time as it offers the potential to run up to five graphics card with dual power connectors making it ideal for a huge mining system or GPU compute (folding for example) system.
Pros
Cons
“While a 1600W power supply is a bit of a niche product, it is still a product that serves a valuable purpose and is in demand. There are few vendors that offer power supplies with this much wattage but Lepa’s Enermax-made G1600 offers an exception to that rule and is executed brilliantly. We can see all the hallmarks of a premium Enermax PSU permeating through the Lepa G1600 – quality, performance and stability. If you’re in need of a powerful, reliable and flexible high-wattage power supply then there really is no reason to look any further than the Lepa G1600.”
Thank you to Enermax and Lepa for providing this review sample.
