Lexar JumpDrive M10 Secure 64GB Flash Drive Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

Fresh on to the market, the JumpDrive M10 Secure will see prices on the shelf that are not too much more to buy in terms of cost when marked against, non-secure drives of the same capacity. As mentioned previously, the M10 Secure will be available through the like of Amazon in capacities ranging from 16GB through to 128GB and prices will start off at £27.99 for a 16GB drive rising up to £45.99 and £77.99 for 32GB and 64GB drives respectively and the most expensive drive, the 128GB M10 topping off the range at £149.99. When you take into account the security features that are on offer, the extra cost is easily justifiable.

Overview

With data security and integrity a high priority for a number of users, having a drive that offers the piece of mind that no matter what, their data is secure, is something that I’m surprised many other vendors have not though of before. Whilst the market for these products is not going to be as big as that of mainstream users, with many people having the need to carry potentially sensitive data around with them (like myself as a journalist with unreleased product information), the JumpDrive M10 Secure is just the item that I need.

When looking at the performance results that I have obtained from the tests on this drive, I will stress that these are from reading and writing data to the root of the drive in the same manner that I would any other flash drive. Whilst the performance figures appear to be distinctly higher than those seen on the packaging, it is worth noting that the encryption process will slow down the read and write speeds when compared to accessing data in the non-secured area.

When you add in the data backup function that is on offer from within the EncryptStick program that is on the drive for that added piece of mind when travelling around, along with the always-on capacity display, the JumpDrive M10 Secure is a concise and well thought out product that does exactly as Lexar wanted it to and exactly what the end-user would want it to do.

Pros

  • 256-bit AES data encryption
  • Always-on capacity meter
  • Easy to use encryption program
  • USB3.0 interface
  • Quick read and write speeds
  • Data backup function

Cons

  • Slightly more expensive than standard flash drives due to encryption capability

“The JumpDrive M10 Secure covers all the ground when it comes to data security, a large 64GB capacity with the capability to encrypt data into a 256-bit secure area gives users that piece of mind that their data is safe and sound, even if it were to be lost or stolen, making it the top choice for anyone with sensitive data to move from one place to another.
