LG gives the full run-down on impressive 3D capable G-Slate

Slates, the new tablets, are becoming increasingly more popular, for instance the flagship of Google’s upcoming Android 3.0 is the Motorola Xoom. Toshiba have also teased their ‘Tablet’ (That is the name…) and LG have accounced its G-Slate.

As all the big players are competing very closely, the specs are the only thing that will really set them apart, so LG have officially unveiled their device with the aid of their US launch-partner T-Mobile. They have finally listed some details to go with it.

The screen will be a 8.9in using a 1280 * 720 px resolution, which will be supported by a more standard 1 GHz dual-core Tegra 2 SoC. Of course, it will also be running Android 3.0 OS (Honeycomb). There will be plenty of storage at 32 GB (presumably all flash based), a gyroscope and an accelerometer for gaming and the extra perks. It will also support WiFi and T-mobiles 4G ‘HSPA+’ network.

The G-Slate does however have a few more tricks up its sleeve with not 1 camera, or two cameras but 3 cameras. This might be a first, but they are their for very good reasons, one will be on the front – 2MP for video chat – and two 5MP/1080p cameras on the back with LED-flash. This will allow capture of both 2D and 3D photos and videos. A very impressive addition!

Whats the use of being able to take 3D videos if you can’t play them back? Well that was LG’s line of thinking too. Of course, the screen is capable of playing 3D HD with the aid of some form of glasses. They may however be active shutter thanks to NVIDIA which means they might not be that cheap. It can also output 3D 1080p content to a TV via HDMI.

The G-Slate is initially going to be limited to the US but may well make it to the UK in a non-4G version.
