LG has introduced their latest UHD monitor, the 31MU97 31-inch 4K Digital Cinema Monitor. The monitor was previously spotted at IFA Berlin this year, but now the release is official. This new monitor is targeted at content creators rather than consumers, meaning photographers, video editors and graphics artists.

The Ultra High Definition (UHD) resolution of 4096×2160 keeps the right aspect ratio for people with this line of work, preventing distortion and misalignment due to the usual used 3840 x 2160 resolution that isn’t a true 4K2K as defined by the standard. Colour accuracy is crucial to content creators and this monitor has a 99.5 percent Adobe RGB colour space. This IPS panel further features the Dual Colour Space that lets the monitor display two different color modes to help in comparing images.

The viewing angle is 178 degrees and the new LG monitor consumes 49W during normal use and 1.2w during sleep. The higher sleep consumption is due to the USB3 hub and charging features. It does however feature a real power button next to the power connection to turn it off. The two built-in 5W speakers are powered by the MAXXAUDIO functions to deliver the best sound at the same time as displaying the best images.

The connectivity to most things should be ensured with two HDMI, three USB 3.0, one Display Port and one mini DisplayPort. There are actually two models of this monitor and the specifications listed here are from the 31MU97-B model found on  LG’s North American site. There is also a version without the B that is listed on the Australian site, and this one also features Thunderbolt connectivity and Mac support.

The new LG 31MU97 should start to become available next week in the US, South Korea, Germany, Australia and UK. The rest of Europe and Japan should follow shortly after. There is no official word on the MSRP yet, but the Thunderbolt model was listed to $2499,99 AUD and the B model without was listed for $1399,99 USD.
