LG has announced the 43UD79-B, their largest 4K IPS panel monitor yet at 42.5-inch with a max resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels @ 60Hz. So that users can utilize the extra display space fully, LG has given the 43UD79-B Picture-in-Picture as well as Picture-by-Picture capability. This means it can run displays simultaneously from different inputs, up to four in fact, and have users set it to occupy 21.3 inches of screen each. Users can also run a full 4K display while having a 21.3-inch screen overlay on any four corners of the screen.
The panel itself has a non-glare coating with a horizontal and vertical viewing angle of 178 degrees. LG claims a contrast ratio of up to 100:1 with peak brightness of 350 cd/m2. At the back, the LG 43UD79-B has four HDMI ports, one DisplayPort, one USB Type-C for display input. There are also two USB 3.0 ports for peripherals and a 3.5mm jack for headphones which diverts the audio feed from the built-in 2x10W speakers on the monitor.
Dell was first to have a 43-inch 4K IPS picture-by-picture panel with the P4317Q, although it was a bit pricey at £940/$1100 USD. The LG 43UD79 42.5-inch 4K IPS monitor on the other hand is much more affordable, currently available in Photography store Adorama for pre-order at only $697 USD. It is expected to be available in stores on May 19th.
