Not only do we find corporate rivalry between computer components manufacturer, the same is found in more or less anything, even TVs, in which LG seems to start a bezel rivalry with what they claim is the narrowest bezel on a public display.
Whether true or not, this 55” HD TV only features a space of 5.3mm between individual panels with left right being 3.4mm and top and bottom 1.9mm, imagine a SLI/CrossFire setup with these bad boys.
The unnamed product has yet to be officially unveiled, this will take place later this month between the 26 and the 28 at the Flat Panel Display (FPD) International 2011 in Yokohama, Japan.
What we do know is that the display features a resolution of 1080p with 800 nits of brightness and features the Local Dimming Technology, which allows a 40% lower power consumption.
At the FPD event, LG will take the opportunity to install a 165” multi-screen display in a 3×3 configuration to show-off their new feat.
“The utility of public display products have been expanding,” said Jun Joon, Vice President of Public Display Department at LG Display. “As a result, public display products have been solidifying their position as a key part of the overall display market, alongside TVs, monitors, and mobile devices. LG Display will leverage on its technological prowess to strengthen its global competitiveness in this booming sector.”
According to the market research firm DisplaySearch, the annual sale of the public display sector is expected to increase from 1.6 million units in 2009 to over 9.5 million units in 2016, so just a hair, really.
