Lian Li PC-Q38 Mini-ITX Chassis Review

Complete System

This is such a neat chassis, but it does have a few tricky moments when it comes to building. Cable routing is easily the most complex task. I used an SFX PSU with hard-wired cables, and I couldn’t recommend a fully modular one enough. Even more so, one with custom sleeved cables would really make a big difference here. Unfortunately, that’s not a PSU I had access to today.

Top Mounted PSU

The PSU mounts into the top front section of the chassis. The benefit here is that hot air will vent from the PSU out the top of the chassis, away from your other components.

Below the PSU, there’s plenty of room for excess cables. It looks messy here, but it’s more out of sight that it seems. A few cable ties will go a long way if you’re more concerned about it though.

Overall, I think the build is pretty neat, and if the cables were all black, they would blend into the chassis much easier. However, for now, you’ll have to join me in a world of imagination… can you picture it? Good, let’s move on.

You’ll notice the lack of GPU here, that’s no mistake. I’ve oped for the new Ryzen with Vega APU here, and a mini-ITX chassis really is perfect for this CPU. With all that space, you can keep great airflow with ease, and easily overclock the CPU. I even tucked a 2.5″ drive in the back there, which looks pretty neat.

Panels Back In Place

All panels back in place and the PC-Q38 looks super slick. The bulk of the cables are barely visible now too, which is a bonus.

I’d feel dirty putting this cute little chassis down on the floor. However, for something to place on your desktop that doesn’t take up much space, it’s perfect. It just looks too damn good to hide out of sight.

Overall, a great product, with fantastic quality and presentation. It’s far more capable than I expected too and was a lot of fun to work with.
