Libratone Lounge Speaker Review

So you’ve just blown £1099 (RRP) on a Libratone Lounge, what do you get? A pretty kick-ass sound system at that, and, not only does it looks amazing, but performs just as exceptionally. Sure £1099 is a lot to drop on a single speaker, you could easily afford a decent surround sound set-up, or a similar spec system at half the cost, but what you are paying a lot for is the design and the quality of the product. Libratone are no Ikea when it comes to design, Ikea products may look great, but are often of poor quality as they are mass produced, Libratone on the other hand, not only look superb, but also have the matching quality, with a great attention to detail such as the Italian Cashmere wool surround and the white stitching.

It’s typical that a product of this calibre has a strong connection with Apple devices, not only to compliment the design, but also to make full use of it’s wireless functionality. What we did find was that the app was lacking in anything useful in relation to audio configuration, there was no option to adjust the volume, EQ or even power off – all features we would have liked to see in the app. It would also have been to good to see an app for Android devices, as currently only Apple devices have the app.

For the price we would have expected to see some more connectivity options, such as phono as it would make a great speaker to sit under the TV. Whilst the 3.5mm jack does cover most devices, some of the audiophiles prefer other options. The positioning of the power button was the other snaggle we had with the Lounge, as when nothing was connected, there was a slight buzzing sound, on top of that, we like to keep our energy usages down, so we always turn devices off, but with the poor location, it meant it was a pain to do so each time.

Overall Libratone have produced a quality wireless speaker that would stand proud in anyones’ home. It may cost a lot for what it is, but you are getting great design and superb sounding audio. Sure it may need some tweaks and volume boosting, but at the end of the day it covers the majority of the bases and would meet many audiophile’s needs. So if you have the cash to splash, the Libratone Lounge is certainly worth looking into – it is our favourite speaker to date, so for this reason, we’re giving the speaker the prestigious:
