BlackBerry’s flagship Passport smartphone is getting a limited edition black and gold model – featuring real gold trim and black leather case – to join the conventional black, white, and red models already on the market.
The handset, limited to 50 numbered units, will cost $899 which, BlackBerry stresses, is a bargain compared to the customised BlackBerry of Canadian rapper Drake, who reportedly paid $3,000 to have his phone plated with 24-carat gold.
Its aesthetic is all this limited edition BlackBerry has to offer over a standard Passport model – strip away the gold and leather facade, and it’s just a bog-standard BlackBerry passport.
The exclusive handset was released on Wednesday but, according to the BlackBerry blog, has already sold out as of 12:45 ET.
