Final Thoughts & Pricing

Pricing

The Linksys MAX-STREAM AC600 Dual-Band MU-MIMO USB Adapter won’t cost you a lot. You can get it new for £24.99 and $47.38, or a certified refurbished for $19.99.

Conclusion

Linksys’ tiny USB MU-MIMO adapter is a cheap way to eliminate bottlenecks on your network. Especially those created by old devices using older and slower wireless signals. Most notebooks come with built-in wireless networking, and these systems live on in our homes for a long time. Since routers will adjust their performance to match the weakest link, faster devices can get crippled. At least for conventional routers. Upgrading with a little AC adapter like this can bring old devices into the current generation networking.

The performance was quite nice for the specifications, but the 2.4GHz band failed on the longest distance. A weird scenario, but it’s what happened. Other than that, it was impressive how well the adapter did. There is barely any room for antennas and it still connected perfectly to the 5GHz network; even on the longest tested distance.

The small sized adapter weighs as good as nothing. It is ideal for those who take their systems on the go. It won’t stick far out of the system and interfere with the area next to it either. Of course, this means there’s less risk of accidentally breaking or unplugging it; compared to a larger sized adapter.

Pros

  • Good range for the size
  • Performed well for the specifications
  • Tiny and Light-weight
  • Price

Cons

  • Failed the 2.4GHz long-range test

“The Linksys MAX-STREAM AC600 Dual-Band MU-MIMO USB Adapter.is a cheap method to bring modern Wi-Fi to older notebooks.”
