Linux license breached, thousands of Android vendors at risk

The Linux android user agreement the GPLv2 has been broken by many of the biggest Android companies according to one patent expert. Florian Muller described Android vendors as having a “rampant non-compliance” with the source coding that Linux required in the license agreement GPLv2. He went on further to say that the licenses could now be totally redistributed amongst users since Androids legally can’t sell without the vendors being licenses properly. An “Apple-Style” legal battle could occur, Linux now has the legal basis to do something similar with Android vendors.

However, it is unlikely a legal dispute will occur, more recently companies like BestBuy, CISCO and Verizon were forced to pay up for Linux licenses after having violated terms of the agreement. Linux copyright holders have the potential to cause havoc amongst Android vendors so it will be very interesting to see how this plays out, we will see legal battles or will Linux settle its concerns behind closed doors?
