Lite-ON might be most known among our readers for their optical drives, but they create a lot of other products too. Most of these are OEM products, so you might not even know you’re using them. One of the companies Lite-ON works with is Dell, and during the Dell World 2014 in Texas, Lite-ON announced the debut of their new EP1 Series M.2 PCIEe Gen2 x4 solid state drive.
“We are extremely excited to present our new M.2 PCIe Gen 2×4 solid state drive at Dell World 2014,” said Darlo Perez, Lite-ON Managing Director. “The new EP1 represents a significant step forward in enterprise storage technology, offering up to 1TB of storage on a compact and highly power efficient M.2 PCIe form factor. Now supporting power loss protection, it offers the perfect balance of performance, enterprise-grade reliability, and cost efficiency.”
The small, compact and power-efficient drives perform in a big way. The EP1 drives impress with superior speeds of 150,000 IOPS, 4KB random reads and 44K random writes. The Sequential speeds are equally impressive with up to 1500MB/s reads and 1200MB/s writes. The ultra low latencies of 40/30 microseconds allow for virtually instant access.
The drives are designed with power loss protection, multiple layers of data protection and customized firmware that makes it a perfect fit for mixed-use environments and application workloads such as E-commerce, SQL and Email servers. The mean time between failures (MBTF) is 2 million hours and the drive can hold up to an endurance rating of up to 1 full drive write per day for 5 years. This is one of the absolute highest reliability rankings in the industry.
