Logitech G27 Racing Wheel PC/PS3 Review

The Logitech G27 Racing Wheel for PC and Playstation 3 really is a strong contender, it’s been a firm favourite with racing fans world wide since its release, much like a few of the other wheels that Logitech produces, such as the gorgeous Driving Force GT.  This is likely because of this multi-format support for this wheel though, being able to change from PS3 to PC is a big financial plus point, since obviously you don’t need two wheels. The not “too” high price point, robust game support list and it’s extensive feature list are all more than welcome features for a wheel that can be picked up in the sub £200 price point, it’s amazing that you get a full 3 pedal setup, full force feed back support, in-line controls and rear paddle gear changers, then a separate H-shifter gear stick, with further additional controls, all of which comes with desk clamps and racing frame mounting support.

An extensive feature list doesn’t make a winner though, if the quality isn’t up to scratch that what’s the point? well fortunately Logitech have done well here too, the wheel, pedals and gear lever have really solid build quality and the extra touch of leather gives it all a nice air of quality, but the overall style and appearance of the rig does look as good as it feels.

The body of the motor housing on the wheel was one of the most impressive aspects of this wheel, its a lot smaller than you find on most wheels, yet that didn’t mean the motor was less powerful, it still packs one heck of punch and call apply some hefty weight in the long corners, but its smaller size also makes it that little bit easier to store away when not in use.

We’ve tested a few wheels out here at eTeknix, with the slightly cheaper MadCatz Xbox 360 wheel and the much more expensive Thrustmaster T500RS, so where does this one fit in? well given it’s price is around £200 cheaper than the Thrustmaster, it’s performance is much closer to the T500RS than the MadCatz, which in it’s self is a fantastic wheel, but the one we reviewed was only for the Xbox 360, but while it’s not as specialist as Thrustmasters effort, the addition of the gear level, more compact build and exceptional performance make this a real bang for buck contender, while it’s price might make a few eyes water, you really do get your moneys worth with the Logitech, but it’s the performance that has earned it our award, not it’s price, which is why I am happy to award the Logitech G27 our Gamers Choice Award.
