Logitech G502 Proteus Core Tunable Gaming Mouse Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The Logitech G502 is available directly from the Logitech website (with free shipping) for just £69.99 and while that’s not especially cheap for a mouse, it’s certainly competitive given the performance and specification on offer.

Overview

Logitech made a lot of big promises about the G502, their website claims this mouse has the best sensor, and while I’ve heard that dozens of times from almost all manufacturers, this time it’s actually true. The G502 sensor tracks with exceptional precision right access the who DPI range and that’s something that simply cannot be praised enough. There’s no acceleration, no angle snapping, virtually no jitter at all, and when it comes to working in CAD, Photoshop, you’ll appreciate that pixel perfect accuracy. When you’re gaming and you miss a headshot, you won’t be able to blame it on the mouse this time. The last mouse with a great sensor like this was the R.A.T. TE from MadCatz, which featured the Philips Doppler, fortunately for Logitech, the G502 has an even better sensor, more features and costs about the same.

Build quality is clearly something of a strong point for Logitech. The G502 is flawlessly crafted and there’s a great attention to detail to be found. Durable rubber grips, a quick-release bottom panel and weight tuning system, the exceptional sensor, high-end mechanical switches and a thick braided cable; even the software is very well made. Of course, we can’t forget the locking scroll wheel, as being able to switch between a “notched” rotation and a fast turning wheel is amazing; it’s a feature you didn’t know you wanted until you’ve had it.

At around the same price as the Corsair Scimitar, Roccat Tyon, Mad Catz MMO TE, there’s no shortage of great mice at this price, but none of them can compete with the G502 sensor performance, although which design and button configuration is best out of all of them is really a subjective matter.

Pros

  • Exceptional sensor performance
  • Weight tuning system
  • 11 programmable buttons
  • Sniper button
  • Easy to use software
  • Comfortable ergonomics
  • Unlockable scroll wheel
  • On-board memory

Cons

  • None
