Logitech has unveiled the 4K Pro Brio webcam, capable of shooting video at 4,096 x 2,160 resolution and 30 frames-per-second. The 4K Pro Brio can capture at high dynamic range (HDR) and features a x5 zoom (though, by the look of the lens, that’s likely to be digital, rather than optical, zoom). Plus support for Windows Hello and infrared-based facial recognition.
Right now, the applications for streaming live 4K video are limited – such a feat requires a 30Mbps+ internet connection – and 4K video chats are nigh on impossible considering the likes of Skype and Google Hangouts are limited to 1080p. The system is sure to be targeted towards YouTubers, which supports both video-on-demand and live streaming at 4K.
“Logitech has been delivering market-leading webcams for 20 years. With BRIO, our goal was to create an elegantly designed, feature-packed webcam that anyone who is the slightest bit serious about video quality will want,” Scott Wharton, Vice President and General Manager of Logitech Video Collaboration, said. “Logitech BRIO takes webcams to an entirely new level. It’s truly an unparalleled webcam experience, whether you’re using it for business video collaboration, streaming a live event, or recording professional-quality video in 4K.”
The 4K Pro Brio supports Windows Hello, Microsoft’s personalised sign-in method for Windows 10 which uses facial recognition to unlock your computer in lieu of a password.
“Microsoft is pleased that Logitech has chosen to bring enterprise-grade security with Windows Hello facial recognition to the BRIO webcam,” Matt Perry, partner group program manager at Microsoft, explained. “By qualifying BRIO with Windows Hello, Logitech is providing its consumer and enterprise customers with a Windows 10 login experience that is secure, password-free and seamless.”
Logitech’s 4K Pro Brio webcam is available now, priced $200 in the US, £200 in the UK, and €239 in Europe.
