Mad Catz R.A.T. Pro X3 Supreme Edition Gaming Mouse Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Mad Catz R.A.T. Pro X3 Supreme Edition Gaming Mouse costs an eye-watering £149.99. I couldn’t see stock in the US, but they do have the none-special edition for around $170. Of course, that’s a heck of a lot of money for a gaming mouse, but this is a much more unique and custom product than most, and all those premium features, and all those extra components, well they don’t come for free!

Overview

The price will no doubt put off your typical consumer, but I really don’t think that’s the market here. This is a very expensive and high-end competitive gaming mouse at its core. Mad Catz has then added even more customisation options to the package, which increases the price. Then they’ve revised the design with even more premium materials, a new more high-end looking design, and it starts to add up very quickly. It’s limited edition, so for hard-core Mad Catz fans, this is the new king! Not cheap, but I think the price is fair when you consider the whole package.

Custom

Customisation has always been a familiar feature on R.A.T. gaming mice. While the Pro X3 Supreme Edition is packaging a lot of features, it actually misses some features seen on previous models. There’s no thumb-scroll wheel on the left side, no sniper button, and it doesn’t have the weight tuning system of some models either. However, it doesn’t feel like it’s lacking either. One thing I really like is that utterly unique mouse wheel. It feels great to use, and having a hidden volume control is really neat too. Of course, being able to swap out the ring to change the grip and aesthetics is something I’ve never seen before.

Performance

You can spend so long tinkering with panels and grips, you may forget this is a gaming mouse. The Pixart sensor is as good as they get, and it’ll give you the pixel-perfect accuracy you desire for detailed Photoshop work or nailed those headshots in CS:GO. Most mice have great sensor these days, but this one still edges out a lead. You can really fine-tune the DPI, adjust the button configuration, the LED lighting, etc. Being able to assign all this to up to 10 profiles on the mouse means that you really only have to deal with the desktop software once, then you’re all set!

Should I Buy One

Honestly, no. An odd conclusion I know, but I genuinely think most people will get broadly the same performance and many of the same features (but not all) from other Mad Catz gaming mice. The R.A.T. 8+ is over £50 cheaper and still has the same sensor and a bunch of cool features of its own. However, if you want something that has class-leading build quality, a truly unique and innovative design, that’s also cooler! Then there’s really no competition, you will want the Mad Catz R.A.T. Pro X3 Supreme Edition Gaming Mouse. It’s the Mad Catz you know and love, but everything is just pushed up to the next level.
